Local History Walk: Wednesday 4th September 2024

We are pleased to announce that a Local History Walk has been organised by Elizabeth Charles, who is one our Committee members, in conjunction with one of the Midlothian Council Countryside Rangers, Alan Krumholds.   The walk will take place on Wednesday 4th September 2024.

The proposed plan for the walk is as follows:-

The walk will commence at 10am.

  •  We will meet at Vogrie House & Country Park, Gorebridge. The walk will also end there.
  •  The timing of the walk will be roughly from 10am until 2pm. This will include stops. The pace will be slow, as this is approximately 4 hours for 5 miles. It will require moderately good mobility.
  •  It is mainly on the flat, apart from a bit of a climb, at the beginning up to  Blinkbonny Ridge.
  •  People will be asked to take a packed  lunch and we will stop  for this.
  • Alan and Bob, {a local man who knows the route}, will do a bit of a double act, sharing some information along the route about the area. This will consist of both local history from Roman Times right up to the present day. It will also consist of  information about Nature and the flora and fauna of the area.
  • We will return to Vogrie House, where teas and coffees will be provided by the Countryside Rangers.
  •  We can park in the Disabled and Staff car park further down the hill towards Vogrie House on the right hand side. Please do not turn left at the top into the car park, as you may then be charged £3.00 on exit.
  •  Suggested maximum numbers for the walk are about twenty people. Friends are also welcome. You do not have to be a Society member.

If you would be interested in attending, please do get in touch with us, via the  “Contact Us” page on our website.
