Hello Everyone,
As we move through autumn, we begin to think about the indoor activities that we would normally be undertaking.
Currently, there is talk about the some Church Halls reopening but it is unlikely that these will prove suitable for our monthly Society meetings.
Despite the lack of meetings, we are still operating a very active Society.
Indeed we will soon be uploading much digitalized material from our archive onto our website.
This material includes many documents and photographs from around the 1880’s to the 1970’s, showing local people at work, play and even at school!
The many photographs vary from Lasswade High Street in the 1920’s to Bonnyrigg and Lothian Street in the 1880’s.
In the latter, the houses are recognizable but the clothing worn by the ladies is reminiscent of bye gone days.
Neil Stewart informs me that recently on the website he has received some rather interesting inquiries.
One in particular was from the daughter of an elderly lady who in the 1950’s had stayed as a student midwife in the nurses’ home in Viewbank Road, Bonnyrigg.
I am sure Neil would be very happy to pass on any memories that you may have of the nursing staff from around this time.
The daughter is hoping to bring her mother back to revisit Bonnyrigg sometime soon.
Finally, turning to possible ways for our Society to meet, perhaps some virtual meetings/talks and outdoor visits might be a starting point?
Regardless of whatever unfolds, we hope to return to some degree of normality sometime in the near future.
Best Wishes,
Lesley Campbell
Secretary
