Update: May 2020

We felt that that we should provide an update as to the situation that has prevailed since we were forced to abandon our 2019-2020 programme during March 2020.

Many of you may be aware that our annual Dr Mary Noble Memorial Award scheme did not work out the way that we had hoped, as three of the four local primary schools had to withdraw from the competition at short notice due to other priorities and work commitments.

This left the 2019 winners, Bonnyrigg Primary School, as the only remaining entrant.

We therefore decided that since their Primary 5 classes had done a lot of work and had produced an excellent video presentation, that it was only fair, to award them the trophy and the £100 cash prize.

We had also hoped to show their video presentation to our members at our Annual General Meeting in April, however, with the Scottish Government lockdown restrictions imposing an effective ban on any large gathering and the closure of the Pitcairn Centre, we had to abandon our plans.

These are truly unprecedented times and we have been unable to draw up a 2020-2021 programme.

We may be unable to meet, but we are still very much active as a Society.

Although we cannot say with any certainty when we will be able to meet again, we are definitely still operating.

On a more positive note, we are making excellent progress with our project to digitise material from our extensive archive collection of documents and photographs.

We hope to be able to make some of that material available soon, here on our website.

In the meantime, please stay well, stay safe and please continue to visit our website for further updates.
